Well the weather up here in N.C. finally broke….blue skies and temps in the 80’s. About time as they were giving away sunglasses for free at the flea markets here. Pretty good for fishing but it still hasn’t helped the job picture. I was one of 1000 to fill out an app at the Lowes when they hung a Now Hiring Sign last week in Franklin, and the same thing happened in Sylva a few weeks ago. Any way I’ve started perusing Craigslist and have actually had a couple of bites such as an offer to be a tile setter laborer in Brandon FL. for $ 7.75 an hour……and a company doing a job in Boca Raton is willing to pay piece work for stone installers at $2.00 a square ft……..that could work out as high as $8.00 per hour, so I might give that a miss as well. Well the search and resume/cover letters have stretched from northern New England to SW Florida and three days ago I received emails requesting more info from not one, but two companies in the Boston area.
Now Craigslist doesn’t post company names, just emails or fax numbers and normally I Google the fax # first. Well this time I did it “after” sending my resume.
Bingo…..I discover I have just sent my resume out to the largest Italian man on earth who 15 years ago threatened me with more than his accent ……… ” I’m a come up there to N.H. and a cutta you fucken heart out with a broken Coka bottle you little cockasucka !!!!”. This was his response to my threat over the phone to go to the A.G. over a wage dispute .You may remember my story of working Federal funded projects with the requirements of paying prevailing wages of 39+ an hour and this guy was paying 25. When he refused to pay me the money owed I went to the Attorney General. On the strength that I was willing to testify he was forced into paying an entire, and very large crew, back pay of $15.00 an hour each for every hour they were employed by him for a year. It was quite a staggering amount and so you can well imagine his reasoning behind the above mentioned threat. Fortunately my resume only has a PO Box # on it, but if little Bryson City N.C. suddenly gets an influx of swarthy men driving Lincoln Town Cars with Mass. plates ………… well
