Well the mail came again yesterday bringing with it a disconnect notice from my internet provider , and for the same reason I got one four months ago. I pay my bills diligently and on time but for some reason unknown the money…..on both occasions….went to some unknown account to languish unnoticed until I’m threatened with disconnect.
The first time I went directly to the internet provider and after much ado was told it was all straightened out, and so while on a roll I figured I’d toss in a lesson on the correct spelling of my name…..just for good measure. This time I called the on line banking department of my bank and after my refusal to answer the One For English Two for Spanish question a very nice lady answered. Her idea was that she call my internet provider and all three of us could hash this out together over the phone. Another nice lady working for the provider asked my account number which I promptly gave….
“ Sorry Sir , we have no record of that number….where did you obtain it ? “
“ I just read it from the bill and disconnect notice you sent me….just below my misspelled name .”
Well, after much ado I’m told it was all straightened out….I guess we’ll know for sure in four months or so . But on a high note I must point out a somewhat remarkable fact on this semi historical day. I spoke to two service departments at the same time and both were staffed by English speakers lacking any form of accent other than plain old “American” ……same odds as the lottery now a days….
