Taxes …. there is that dreaded word again . This time of the year it’s property taxes as here in my Florida county you can save yourself four percent of your annual bill if you cough up a couple of months early . Sounds great, but when it comes to taxes there is always that “however” part that needs factoring in …..
We recently heard that our county will not be raising the property tax rate this year and on the surface one would think that sounds pretty good . Being past victims of tax breaks “however” this information just put a fear induced ball in the pit of my stomach . It reminded the Wife and I of the time the Federal Govt. promised us lower income taxes and fewer reg’s at the same time new reg’s caused us to pay more taxes … funny how that works . The following year when they promised further income tax cuts my wife questioned if I thought we could afford another tax break … and the answer was no .
Anyway , I’ve just finished perusing my online property tax bills and payments over the past thirteen years that I’ve owned the house before writing the check and for truth my tax rate did not go up this year . However…. there’s that word again …. they did increase the value of my home instead thus increasing my annual tax bill just like every single year since I bought the house .
Now we’re told someone is promising to fix Florida’s property insurance problem and there’s that fear induced ball in the pit of the stomach again as I doubt I’ll be able to afford that fix any more than I can a tax break …..
