It seem’s to me the animal world is progressing at near equal pace as that of humans decline . It is most certainly a shame that humans are responsible for the extinction of so many species on our planet and worse still that we work equally as hard on eliminating our own . Some life forms however have shown the ability to learn something from their surroundings and adapt … and then thrive at a somewhat rapid rate using their hard earned knowledge.
I offer you squirrels .
Having acquired my licence to operate a motor vehicle some fifty plus years ago I’ve had plenty of time to notice some very obvious changes on the road from then till now . Squirrels used to dash out in front of an oncoming vehicle, change there minds and dash back only to change that tiny mind yet again . That third choice always ended badly and there were few cars back then didn’t rack up a death toll in aide of mass squirrel suicide.
As time marched on the little gray rodents that chose a suburban lifestyle seem to have adapted to automobiles and roads and have discovered the importance of only changing their tiny minds once during their mad dash across the road in search of another acorn . I can no longer remember the last time I flattened a little gray though they race in front of my vehicle daily . It can’t be instinct, I believe they have become so much wiser over the decades .
It’s quite apparent that we need follow their lead and become a little more squirrely ourselves , should that ever be possible
